Our Future
Over the past 8 years of my service to you, we have brought many amenities to the people of Pleasanton, for which I am very proud. From free annual E-Waste Day, to green building ordinances, a new Bike and Pedestrian Master Plan, the Alviso Adobe interpretive park showcasing 5,000 years of history in our valley, to restored water ways and new affordable and workplace housing, as well as programs to attract and retain businesses in Pleasanton – we have been hard at work for you! All of these new programs and amenities translate into a continued delivery of quality of life for you, unprecedented anywhere!
However, we do have our challenges.
The economy has given us pause as some in our City have lost their jobs, others have lost their homes, and the City, as all cities, is at risk of losing the businesses the provide for our every day essentials.
We have cinched our belts, in every way possible – while we have not filled vacancies, we also have not laid off employees. And, thanks to our wonderful police department, crime is DOWN! Meanwhile, our firefighters continue to keep us safe, as well – all doing the same great job with a whole lot less.
In addition, we have accumulated a fund of monies saved for “economic uncertainties” – to date, we haven’t had to borrow one penny.
And, the State of California is forcing its hand regarding how we plan and develop our future by setting aside our 1996 Voter approved housing cap of 29,000 units. It’s clear that our “cap” is gone. It’s equally clear that we have an opportunity to employ many other growth management policies to maintain our local control. And as your Mayor, you can take that to the bank!
Finally, we enjoy rock solid good relations with other agencies throughout the Valley, Alameda County, the Bay Area, and beyond. The City of Pleasanton enjoys seats on our local LAFCo Board, Alameda County Congestion Management Agency, the AC Transportation Improvement Authority, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, and many, many more.
In the coming two years, with your vote of confidence, I promise to guide the City, with support from the Council and our amazing staff to develop and implement sound policy to keep our little City the great City it is, and maintaining our very special quality of life as we move into the future.
Thank you in advance for your confidence!
Yours in service,
Jennifer
